NEW LAW SIGNED TO FIGHT THE FENTANYL CRISIS

Yesterday, Governor Youngkin signed legislation that gets at the production and distribution of fentanyl, a horrible poison that kills on average 5 Virginians every day.

It does three main things:

1. Raises the penalty for adulterating or mislabeling drugs

2. Makes the possession of pill presses, encapsulating machines, and tableting machines a criminal offense. These are alarmingly accessible at modest prices and used by criminal organizations to produce large quantities of fake pharmaceuticals.

3. Creates a 10-year mandatory minimum for manufacturing any substance that contains fentanyl in a home with a minor child.

We MUST equip law enforcement to take a strong stand against this epidemic. And I’m proud to have voted in favor of this new law and hope we continue to criminalize those who seek to make money at the expense of the health of our fellow Virginians.
